Releasing of white doves at funerals is a beautiful way to symbolize the spirit of the deceased departing this life for the next. The doves may be released by hand or from our white heart-shaped basket; it is entirely up to the family how the release will occur. The doves are usually released at the end of a chapel or graveside service. However, they can be released wherever family and friends feel it is appropriate - as long as they are released in an outside environment. We will also work in with the Funeral Director, if desired. A white dove release is not only a way to remember a loved one, but more so, to celebrate his or her life. Spiritually, doves possess a healing power that is quite profound. As the family of the departed farewell the loved member of the family on their final journey, they can begin their healing through the release of a white dove. Traditional funeral stories told that doves carried the souls of deceased people to heaven. Doves are often portrayed on graves to represent the eternal peace of someone who has departed this life. Whatever you believe and whatever traditions you follow when mourning the loss of a loved one, it is always comforting to feel that they have gone somewhere peaceful and secure. White doves are a great way of delivering a special message of peace and love (instead of just flowers). If you are not able to attend because you live far away or circumstances prevent you being able to attend, we are happy to read out a personal message or poem (or we can provide one should you desire) before setting the doves free. |
